Why do I need women’s health care?

Your reproductive life, which dictates your health in many ways, can be divided into three stages:

  • Puberty
  • Your reproductive years
  • Menopause and your post-reproductive years

Accompanying each of these stages are different health concerns as your hormones and reproductive organs adjust, driven by the biological imperative to reproduce — even if you don’t have children or don’t want children.

For this reason, you need a specialist such as Dr. Bruner to oversee these different stages, ensuring that your body functions properly throughout. Dr. Bruner understands your reproductive health and knows what to look out for. In fact, it’s this preventive care, more than anything, that makes specialized women’s health care imperative.

What are the most common women’s health care issues?

Women face a host of issues unique to their bodies because of their reproductive organs, including their:

  • Vagina
  • Cervix
  • Ovaries
  • Uterus
  • Fallopian tubes
  • Breasts

As your hormone levels rise and fall throughout your life, the health of these organs may be affected, which Dr. Bruner monitors during each of your visits. The most common problems she watches out for are:

  • Heavy or abnormal bleeding
  • Ovarian cysts
  • Uterine fibroids
  • Reproductive cancers
  • Sexually transmitted diseases

In addition to these problems, Dr. Bruner pays close attention to your transitions, especially as you pass through menopause.

What happens during a women’s wellness exam?

During your visit with Dr. Bruner, which you should schedule annually, she first gathers your vital statistics and measurements. With these numbers recorded, she reviews any questions or concerns you may have since your last visit. Dr. Bruner pays close attention to any changes you report, which helps determine which tests to perform during your physical exam.

During your physical exam, Dr. Bruner performs both a visual examination of your vagina, as well as an exam using her hands to feel for any abnormalities or changes in your pelvic region and in your breasts.

If it’s time, she may also perform a Pap smear, during which she swabs your cervix to check for abnormal cells that could indicate you have cancer. Consult with Dr. Bruner before jumping to conclusions.

If Dr. Bruner finds anything during your exam or in your lab results, you may need to return for further investigation.

Dr. Amy was the first provider I have seen that actually listened and looked at my lab work. She is very skilled in looking at women's issues. Especially the thyroid. She is obviously an expert in her Field. I'm looking forward to my treatment and more energy!

She understood my problems, even more than the immediate Thyroid Problem Need. She was an OB-GYN in the past, so she can even help me with my post-hysterectomy problems. Her demeanor is familiar, and kind. She listens and shares info. Highly recommended...

She is never in a rush and takes all the time needed to really listen what my health concerns are and how I am doing overall. Dr. Bruner takes a holistic approach to healthcare and at my annual visit yesterday, she had some ideas on how to treat a non-gyn condition that my primary doctor had not suggested. She is a fabulous physician and I highly recommend her.
